Book of Hosea Chapter 8 Vs. 12

 Israel Will Reap the Whirlwind

I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing. Hos. 8:12

I have written... Here Jehovah claimed to have written . . . great things, which proves that what Moses and others wrote to Israel was through inspiration from God. Men were the mere instruments (2Tim. 3:15-17). It was God who spoke by the prophets in all ages (Heb. 1:1); and in this age He has spoken by His Son (John 7:16; 8:28, 8:46-47; 12:49; 14:10, 14:24; 17:8) and by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13; Heb. 2:4).

Israel has been duly warned; she is without excuse (compare 6:7; 8:1).

but they were... God had chosen the whole house of Israel to reveal His Word to. They were married to God on the way to the Promised Land. They made covenant with God to keep His commandment, and receive His blessings in return. They knew the law, and the consequences of not keeping that law. Their idolatry was with full knowledge. They disregarded the law of God and His commandments, and began to worship false gods.

Were I to write for him by myriads My laws, as those of a stranger would they be accounted.

Israel had built many altars, but at the same time had treated the many things of God’s Law (His covenant demands; cf. Hos. 8:1) as something alien.
