Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 24-29

The Division of the Land

And by the border of Benjamin, from the east side unto the west side, Simeon shall have a portion. And by the border of Simeon, from the east side unto the west side, Issachar a portion. And by the border of Issachar, from the east side unto the west side, Zebulun a portion. And by the border of Zebulun, from the east side unto the west side, Gad a portion. And by the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar unto the waters of strife in Kadesh, and to the river toward the great sea. This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their portions, saith the Lord GOD. Eze. 48:24-29

It appears; they cast lots for the piece of land they would inherit. These above had all received their lot in the southern area. They each got a strip of land, and all of them were side by side making up this lot. They were bordered on the one side by the Mediterranean Sea and on the other by Tamar. Each got a portion, because it was their inheritance from God.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 26

The Fiery Furnace

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. Dan. 3:26

ye servants of... The three Jews had claimed to serve the true and living God (Dan. 3:17), so now the king recognized them as true servants of the Most High God. This was a remarkable admission by Nebuchadnezzar. Up to then he had believed that his Babylonian gods were superior to Yahweh (though he had once acknowledged the greatness of Yahweh, Dan. 2:47). After all, he had taken captives from Judah and vessels from the Jews’ temple. But his gods could not deliver anyone alive from a furnace! (cf. Dan. 3:29) As the three had predicted, their God (Yahweh) was able to deliver them from the furnace (Dan. 3:17). Though the king recognized the unusual nature of Yahweh, he did not acknowledge Him as his God.

My Sheep Hear My Voice- Rev. 21:16

My Sheep Hear My Voice- Rev. 21:16

Before Jesus was crucified He told the disciples to watch and pray, something so simple, but they let their physical bodies take over and they fell back asleep. In these last hours of time you need to hear His voice. When He tells you something, it is very important, but most ignore my voice or just discuss it and go on with what they were doing. You will see many things start to happen shortly and if you do not hear and obey His voice,... it will mean death for some of you....Jesus has only your best interest in mind. Christ knows you heart, and if you are truly His you will hear His voice. He awakes many of you at 3am on the dot, but most will roll over and go back to sleep. There are a few who will get up and pray. Your day is filled with so many things and Jesus is the last thing many of you give your time to. But Christ needs to talk to you,... to fellowship with you and only when you are still and quite (3am) can you hear Him,... the rest of your day is so busy you do not have time for Him,... but you need to make time, for time is short and the Lord has instructions for you.

Revelation 21

The Wall, Gates, and Foundations of the New Jerusalem

And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. Rev. 21:16

twelve thousand furlongs... 1,500 mi. square. This would be about two million square miles of ground space, offering plenty of room for all the glorified saints to live.

city lies foursquare... The size of this city indicates that each border is approximately fifteen hundred miles long. Thus, the dimensions of the city would be equal to the area from the eastern seaboard of the United States to Colorado on one side and from the Canadian border to the southern tip of Florida on the other.
In addition to the length and breadth, the city will be fifteen hundred miles high. This great size will afford sufficient space for the habitation of the saints from all ages of history.
length and the... The city has the symmetrical dimensions like a cube, which parallels its closest earthly counterpart, the inner sanctuary in the tabernacle and temple (compare 1 Kings 6:20).
We see here that this city is like a cube. Twelve thousand furlongs is 1500 miles. This city is 1500 miles square and 1500 miles high.

An angel measured the city with a measuring rod of gold, about 12 1/2 feet in length. The city is 12,000 stadia in length and width, approximately 1,500 miles on each side. Tremendous as is the dimension of the city, the amazing fact is that it is also 1,500 miles high.

Commentators differ as to whether the city is a cube or a mountain. The descriptions seem to favor the mountain form. It lies foursquare. The length, breadth, and height of it are equal, being 12,000 furlongs or 1,500 miles. Best understood to mean that the base of the city lies on the earth, with all four sides equal, and from the base it towers as a mountain peak to the same height as the measure of the length of the base of the city. If we conceive of the mansions as having multiple stories , it is clearly evident the billions of persons could live in this one city.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 23

The Division of the Land

As for the rest of the tribes, from the east side unto the west side, Benjamin shall have a portion. Eze. 48:23

Benjamin shall have... See Eze. 48:1 for the division of the land to the tribes.

It appears, these were on the south side of the city, and these, and the other property allotments, were side by side.

The lower part of the land will be allotted to the five remaining tribes. Proceeding southward these will be Benjamin (Eze. 48:23), Simeon (Eze. 48:24), Issachar (Eze. 48:25), Zebulun (Eze. 48:26), and Gad (Eze. 48:27). The locations of all 12 tribes will differ from their locations during Joshua’s time to the captivities (Josh. 13-19).

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 25

The Fiery Furnace

He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Dan. 3:25

is like the... There is no definite article in the original language, so it reads, "a son of God, " that is, an angel or a superhuman being. Nebuchadnezzar could not have known the N.T. revelation of the Son of God who was born of God and Mary (Mat. 1:18-23; Luke 1:35; Heb. 1:5-7). He himself acknowledged the being was an angel in Dan. 3:28.

Revelation 21

The Wall, Gates, and Foundations of the New Jerusalem

And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. Rev. 21:15

a golden reed... A measure 12.5 feet long (note, Rev. 11:1). It was like a rod or sceptre as in Rev. 2:27; 12:5; 19:15. A standard for measure.

This is like (Ezek. 40:3), and the measuring of the millennial temple. Also, the measuring of the Tribulation temple described (in chapter 11:1).
All three measurements are showing the significance that shows what belongs to God. This action indicates that the capital of heaven belongs to God and He is measuring what is His (compare 11:1; Ezek. 40:3).

The angel had a “golden reed” with which to measure the city, the gates and the wall. A measuring reed is about twelve and one-half feet long, Ezek. 40:5; 41:8; 43:13. Of all the cities, this one is the most important and greatest in size.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 22

The Division of the Land

Moreover from the possession of the Levites, and from the possession of the city, being in the midst of that which is the prince's, between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin, shall be for the prince. Eze. 48:22

This is just expressing a little more fully, that this land is bordered by the Levites. It appears that this land was on the outside of each of the areas.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 24

The Fiery Furnace

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. Dan. 3:24

was astonied... Astonished or amazed.
Did not we... Question 6. Next, Dan. 4:30. Nebuchadnezzar was watching the proceedings intently from a safe distance. As he peered into the furnace, probably through the lower opening, what he saw amazed him. The men who had been tied up were walking around in the furnace, unbound.

Revelation 21

The Wall, Gates, and Foundations of the New Jerusalem

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev. 21:14

twelve apostles of... The 12th will be the name of Matthias, who was numbered with the apostles (Act. 1:26).

The foundation of Christianity was established by Jesus through the twelve apostles.

You can easily see, this is not only a city but stands for the Christians as well.

These stones commemorate God's covenant relationship with the church of which the apostles are the foundation of.
The layout of New Jerusalem's gates picture God's favor on all His redeemed people from both the old and new covenant.

The 12 foundations to the city’s wall bore the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb. The apostles were part of the church, the body of Christ. Thus both the church and Israel will be in the city; the former are represented by the apostles’ names on the foundations (Rev. 21:14), and the latter by the names of Israel’s 12 tribes on the gates (Rev. 21:12). The distinction between Israel and the church is thus maintained.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 21

The Division of the Land

And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy oblation, and of the possession of the city, over against the five and twenty thousand of the oblation toward the east border, and westward over against the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, over against the portions for the prince: and it shall be the holy oblation; and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof. Eze. 48:21

residue shall be... The land east and west of the holy oblation will be for the prince of Israel (Eze. 48:21-22).

This residue took up two strips of land on either side of the oblation. This is the prince's portion.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 23

The Fiery Furnace

And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Dan. 3:23

fell down bound... Soldiers threw or lowered the three… into the blazing furnace.

Revelation 21

The Wall, Gates, and Foundations of the New Jerusalem

On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. Rev. 21:13

This is reminiscent of the way the twelve tribes camped around the tabernacle (in numbers chapter 2), and the allotment of tribal lands around the millennial temple (Ezek. 48).

This is an entirely different situation from the earthly Jerusalem in the Millennium. But if the names of the gates corresponded to the millennial Jerusalem described in Eze. 48:31-34, the north side from east to west would have the gates named Levi, Judah, and Reuben. On the west side from north to south were Naphtali, Asher, and Gad; on the south side from east to west, Simeon, Issachar, and Zebulun; and on the east side from north to south, Joseph, Benjamin, and Dan. In contrast to Rev. 7:5-8, where Dan is omitted and Joseph and Manasseh are included, Ezekiel mentioned Dan but not Manasseh.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 20

The Division of the Land

All the oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall offer the holy oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city. Eze. 48:20

five and twenty... About 50 square miles.

We can see from this, that all of these divisions added together made a square. This square was approximately 50 miles each direction.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 22

The Fiery Furnace

Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Dan. 3:22

because the king's... It was customary to remove the clothing of those being executed, but because of the haste in which the king wanted his command carried out (the king’s command was… urgent) this practice was not followed this time. The flames leaping through the top opening of the furnace killed the men who had thrown the three into the fire.

Revelation 21

The Wall, Gates, and Foundations of the New Jerusalem

And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: Rev. 21:12

And had a... If you have ever been to Jerusalem in Israel, you know the old city has a large wall around the city.

and had twelve... The physical Jerusalem here has 12 gates.

and at the... These angels are stationed to attend to God's glory and to serve His people.

are the names... The inclusion of the names of the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles in the foundations and gates of the city (see 21:14), indicates that both Jewish and Gentile believers will all be part of the family of God and share eternity as one. Although it would seem that the Jews are distinct from the Church during the Millennium, they will all be one as children of the living God for eternity.

Here we see their names (twelve tribes), celebrating God's covenant relationship with Israel, the people of the promises, covenants, scriptures and the Messiah.
You see, this earthly Jerusalem is a replica of this heavenly Jerusalem.

John saw a gigantic city, “square” in shape (Rev. 21:16), and surrounded by a great, high wall with 12 gates. The 12 gates bore the names of the 12 tribes of Israel. The number 12 is prominent in the city with 12 gates and 12 angels (Rev. 21:12), 12 tribes of Israel (Rev. 21:12).

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 19

The Division of the Land

And they that serve the city shall serve it out of all the tribes of Israel. Eze. 48:19

This is just speaking of those involved in running the city are some from every tribe. We might say they were gainfully employed.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 21

The Fiery Furnace

Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Dan. 3:21

in their coats... Cloaks or mantles.
their hosen... Aramaic: pattiysh, fine outer garment. Hosen is obsolete.
and their hats... The turban. The only place where the word is used in Scripture. Herodotus (who lived 100 years after Daniel) said that the dress of the Babylonians consisted of a tunic of linen reaching down to the feet over which was a woolen tunic and over all a white short cloak or mantle. On their heads they wore turbans. One translation reads, "in their cloaks, their turbans, and their upper (woolen) tunics, and their under (linen) tunics." All this should have caught fire quickly but instead there was not even the smell of smoke on them when they came out (Dan. 3:27).

Revelation 21

The Outward Appearance of the New Jerusalem

Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. Rev. 21:11

glory of God:... The brilliance radiating from New Jerusalem caused by the full manifestation of God's glory will be so much, the city will have no need of the sun or the moon as the glory of God will illuminate it.

a jasper stone... According to Plinytis semi-transparent. According to others it is green transparent, perhaps the green chalcedony (Exo. 28:20; 39:13; Eze. 28:13; Rev. 4:3; 21:11, 21:18, 21:19). A transliteration, not a translation, of the Greek word. Rather than the modern opaque jasper, the term actually refers to a completely clear diamond, a perfect gem with the brilliant light of God’s glory shining out of it and streaming over the new heaven and the new earth (compare 4:3).

The overall impression of the city as a gigantic brilliant jewel compared to jasper, clear as crystal indicates its great beauty. John was trying to describe what he saw and to relate it to what might be familiar to his readers. However, it is evident that his revelation transcends anything that can be experienced.

The jasper stone known today is opaque and not clear (cf. Rev. 4:3). It is found in various colors, and John apparently was referring to the beauty of the stone rather than to its particular characteristics. Today one might describe that city as a beautifully cut diamond, a stone not known as a jewel in the first century.
As in the earlier references to the New Jerusalem as a bride, here again is a city, not a person or group of people. This is confirmed by the description of the city which follows.
God, who sits upon the throne, as seen throughout the book, is pictured in Rev. 4:3 as looking like a Jasper stone. This helps us understand the light of the city and its outward appearance which radiates the glory of God. Cf. 1 Tim. 6:16; 1 Jhn. 1:5-7.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 18

The Division of the Land

And the residue in length over against the oblation of the holy portion shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be over against the oblation of the holy portion; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that serve the city. Eze. 48:18

The land, which was not in use in holy things, was planted, and the people ate from the vegetables of the gardens.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 20

The Fiery Furnace

And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Dan. 3:20

And he commanded... The king ordered some of his strongest soldiers… to tie up the three and throw them into the blazing furnace. The furnace was probably constructed with an opening in the top, through which fuel could be fed, and an opening in the lower side from which ashes could be taken.

Revelation 21

The New Heaven and the New Earth

And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God” Rev. 21:10

and high mountain... Here we have the revelation that the city is not a cube, but a series of mountains starting with low foothills just inside the walls. For 1,500 miles the city ascends to the highest mountain on which is located the heavenly tabernacle or temple in which the scenes of Rev. 4-5 will be seen by all who visit the capital building. From this high mountain John could see the city, streets, rivers, etc. below, as partially described in Rev. 21:9-27; 22:1-5. It is called Mount Sion (Rev. 14:1; Heb. 12:22-23); the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north (Isa. 14:12-14); the mountain of his holiness (Psm. 48:1; cp. Zec. 6:1; Psm. 24:3).
the holy Jerusalem... The Holy City, New Jerusalem:
1. Its names (Rev. 21:2)
2. Its source and origin (Rev. 3:12; 21:2, 21:10; John 14:1-3; Gal. 4:26; Heb. 9:11; 11:10-16; 12:22; 13:14)
3. Its preparation (Rev. 21:2; John 14:1-3; Heb. 11:10-16; Heb. 13:14)
4. Its eternal location (Rev. 3:12; 21:2, 21:9-10, 21:24-26; 22:1-5)
5. Its outward appearance (Rev. 21:11-25)
6. Its walls, gates, and foundations (Rev. 21:12-14; Heb. 11:10-16)
7. Its measurements (Rev. 21:15-17)
8. Its materials (Rev. 21:10-21)
9. Its age (Rev. 21:2)
10. Its streets (Rev. 21:21)
11. Its buildings (Rev. 21:12; 7:15; 11:19; 14:15, 14:17; 15:1-8; 16:1, 16:17; John 14:1-3)
12. Its lighting system (Rev. 21:23, 21:25; 22:5)
13. Its water system (Rev. 22:1; 7:17; 14:7)
14. Its inhabitants (Rev. 3:12; 12:12; 13:5; 21:2-5, 21:9; 22:3-4; John 14:1-3; Heb. 11:11-16; 12:22-23; 13:14)
15. Its traffic (Rev. 21:24-27)
16. Its food (Rev. 2:7, 2:17; 19:1-10; 22:2; Psm. 78:25; Luke 22:15-18, 22:28-30)
17. Its restrictions (Rev. 21:8, 21:27; 22:8-15)
18. Its rulers (Rev. 22:3-5)
That great city, the holy Jerusalem. The Lamb's wife is described as the new city of Jerusalem. This magnificent city is where the bride of Christ, will live forever. The most dominant characteristic of the holy city is the presence of God's Glory, which personifies God's presence with His people. The Glory that departed from the Old Jerusalem (see Ezek. Chapters 8 to 11), is restored to the New Jerusalem of the future.
John's incredible vision began when the angel carried him away in the Spirit (in Rev. 1), where he received the visions that make up the book of Revelation. John's visions were not dreams, but spiritual realities, like the one's Paul saw when he was also caught up to the third heaven (see Rev. 1:10).
From John's vantage point atop a great and high mountain, he repeats his observation (of verse 2), that New Jerusalem came down out of heaven from God, emphasizing its divine origin.
Note what is described here is not the creation of heaven, but the descent of what already existed from eternity past. Now it's being situated in the center of the new heaven and the new earth
Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. Carried by the Spirit to a high mountain, John saw the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, shining with the glory of God.
Expositors have raised questions about the additional revelation of the New Jerusalem, beginning in Rev. 21:9. Some believe that this section is a recapitulation and pictures the New Jerusalem as it will be suspended over the earth during the millennial reign of Christ. A preferred interpretation, however, is that the passage continues to describe the New Jerusalem as it will be in the eternal state. Obviously the city would be much the same in either case, but various indications seem to relate this to the eternal state rather than to the Millennium.
New Jerusalem, Rev. 3:12; 21:2. The meaning of the word "new" being "freshness or new in character" applies to eternal things that need no renovation as well as those which need it. Everything in the eternal presence of God is kept new and fresh by His very presence. God can keep anything new as well as make it new. The City is new in freshness and has been that way ever since it has been made. Thje actual age of the city is unknown, but possibly it was created with the heavens and the earth in the beginning, because it is now the location of the throne of God, which has been established there ever since the heavens were created, Psm. 11:4; 93:2; 103:19; Isa. 6:1; 66:1; Rev. 4:2-10; 5:1-13; 7:9-17; 8:3; 22:1-3. It was in existence in Abraham's day, for God promised him and all Old Testament saints the city, Heb. 11:9-11; 14-16.

The word "Jerusalem" is used about 810 times in the Bible and always as the name of a literal city, as is clear in every passage it is used. Never used as a symbol.
The Holy City, Rev. 21:2; 22:19. Here it is called a “city” with the qualifying word “holy.”

The Bride, the Lamb's wife, Rev. 21:2, 9. This is the expression which has caused interpreters to symbolize the city as the Church. But why this expression should be misleading, in view of such a plain literal description of a real heavenly city, should be clear to us. That a literal heavenly city and redeemed peoples are both seen in this description is clearly implied, if not stated. John, having been previously shown the redeemed saints of all ages, was here shown the material city where those saints will dwell forever. Hence, the city is inseparable from its inhabitants and can be called “the bride, the Lambs wife,” as is seen in the case of earthly Jerusalem and Israel many times in the Old Testament, where God speaks of Jerusalem with the same terms as He does His chosen family, Israel.

It is clear from Heb. 11:8-16, 40 passages all Old Testament saints from Abel on were promised the same city as New Testament saints are, so all saints of all ages must be the bride of Christ, Rev. 21:9. Hence, it is not proper to call the Church the bride of Christ. The bride is a city and not a church, as is clear in Rev. 21:9. Therefore, the Old and New Testament saints and all who have a part in the first resurrection will dwell in the new Jerusalem, which city and its glorified inhabitants are called “the bride, the Lamb's wife,” as in Rev. 21:2, 9.

The Great City, the Holy Jerusalem, Rev. 21:10. The heavenly Jerusalem, Heb. 12:22. The Greek word epouranies simply means “heavenly, that which is above the sky, celestial, in heaven, or on high,” Mt. 18:25; Jhn. 3:12; Eph. 1:3, 20.

Ezekiel Chapter 48 Vs. 17

The Division of the Land

And the suburbs of the city shall be toward the north two hundred and fifty, and toward the south two hundred and fifty, and toward the east two hundred and fifty, and toward the west two hundred and fifty. Eze. 48:17

We see that this too, is a square.

Daniel Chapter 3 Vs. 19

The Fiery Furnace

Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated. Dan. 3:19

full of fury... When the king, full of rage, commanded the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual, he only magnified God all the more (Dan. 3:19, 3:25-28). In "The Song of the Three Holy Children" of the Apocrypha it is stated that the servants of Nebuchadnezzar kept throwing "rosin, pitch, tow, and small wood; so that the flame streamed forth above the furnace forty-nine cubits." This was 73 feet 6 inches. The fire was so hot that it killed those putting the men in the furnace (Dan. 3:22).
