A Plea to Return to the Lord
Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy. Hos. 14:3
Asshur shall not... The 23rd and last prophecy in Hosea (Hos. 14:3-9, unfulfilled).
Sixteen Predictions—Unfulfilled:
1. Asshur will not save us (Hos. 14:3).
2. We will not trust in horses.
3. We will not say anymore to the work of our hands, you are our gods.
4. I will heal their backsliding (Hos. 14:4).
5. I will love them freely.
6. I will be as dew to Israel (Hos. 14:5).
7. He will grow as the lily.
8. He will cast his roots as Lebanon.
9. His branches will spread (Hos. 14:6).
10. His beauty will be as the olive tree.
11. His smell will be as Lebanon.
12. They that dwell under his shadow will return (Hos. 14:7).
13. They will revive as grain.
14. They will grow as the vine.
15. The scent thereof will be as the wine of Lebanon.
16. Ephraim will say, what have I to do anymore with idols (Hos. 14:8)?

we will not... They will no longer trust in the power of their horses in battle. They realize that only God is merciful.

thee the fatherless... God repeatedly demanded mercy for the orphan (Exodus 22:22; Deut. 10:18); consequently, Israel could expect to receive His compassion (Luke 15:17-20).

This is expressing the fact that no world ruler could save them. There is no one who can save them, but God. They renounce also, the idols they had made with their own hands.
No longer will Israel trust in Assyria or other nations, or will she call her hand-made idols our gods.
