Book of 1 John Chapter 2 Vs. 11

 The New Commandment

1 John 2:11 “But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”

and walketh in... means lives. He habitually spends his life in darkness, or sin (see 2Cor. 4:4), for the blinding effect of Satan and sin. Hate is a product of the devil.

Is - walketh - whither.

The condition of him who hates is viewed as related to being, action, and tendency.

He goeth (ὑπάγει)

Or is going. Imperfect: were going. Literally, were going away. The verb has the sense of retiring from something. Compare John 6:67; 7:33, on which see; John 12:11; John 18:8.

The devil is in darkness.

John 12:35 “Then Jesus said unto them, yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.”

In the darkness, we cannot see clearly and do not see things that cause us to stumble.

Hath blinded (ἐτύφλωσεν)

For the image see Isa. 6:10. See on closed, Mat. 13:15. Compare John 1:5, and see on κατέλαβεν, overtook; John 11:35, 11:40. The aorist tense, blinded, indicates a past, definite, decisive act. When the darkness overtook, it blinded. The blindness is no new state into which he has come.

However, for one who hates his brother. Such a person walks around in the darkness, and he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him (cf. 1Jhn. 2:9) A Christian who harbors hatred for a fellow Christian has lost all real sense of direction. Like a man wandering aimlessly in the dark, he faces potentially grave dangers.
