Ezekiel Chapter 39 Vs. 28

 The Lord Will Restore Israel

Ezekiel 39:28 "Then shall they know that I [am] the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them anymore there."

God scattered them for the sins in their lives. He brings the remnant back, because He is a merciful God. He has forgiven them.

The ultimate result of the battle with Gog will be Israel’s national repentance and spiritual restoration. This will be fulfilled in the millennial kingdom.

Romans Chapter 11 Vs. 28

The Mystery of Israel's Salvation

As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. Rom 11:28

As concerning the... They are enemies of the gospel, but beloved for the fathers’ sakes. They have been chosen of God to fulfill His plan and they will yet do so. The gifts and callings of God to Israelites still hold good, but they must first come to repentance and fulfill righteousness before being blessed.

This is Israel’s temporary situation during her time of spiritual hardening.

touching the election... From the perspective of God’s eternal choice, Israel will always be His covenant people.

the father’s sakes... The patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who are the recipients of the Abrahamic Covenant.

Here Paul summarized God’s dealings with Israel and with the Gentiles. In order for God to bring the gospel to Gentiles He had to deal with Israel corporately as enemies. But in relation to God’s choice (election) of Abraham and His covenant with him and the patriarchs, Israel is beloved. Because God chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (cf. Rom. 9:6-13), He loves the nation and will carry through on His promises. This is another reason Israel’s hardening must be temporary (cf. Rom. 11:15, 11:22-25) and she must finally be saved corporately: God chose her.

Ezekiel Chapter 39 Vs. 27

The Lord Will Restore Israel

Ezekiel 39:27 "When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;"

again from the... The word again proves that this is the second gathering of Israel and they were gathered once before this. The first gathering was after the Babylonian captivity; the second is now taking place and it will continue until all the Israelites are finally and completely gathered or regathered at the second advent of Christ (vs. 27-29; Isa. 11:10-12).

and am sanctified... Here again God speaks of Himself as being sanctified in Israel, meaning that He is revered by them and they have set Him apart as their only true and living God-- not that He has been cleansed from sin, for He has no sin (vs. 27).

Just before this terrible war, God had brought them back from all the nations where they had been scattered. We know that in Germany, alone, about one sixth of the Jews were killed in World War 2. They were brutally rounded up, and killed unnecessarily. Isn’t it strange that 5 out of 6 during Gog and Magog will be killed?

God will… bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel. God will show Himself holy through them (cf. Eze. 20:41; 28:22, 28:25; 36:23; 38:16), acknowledging them as His people.

Romans Chapter 11 Vs. 27

The Mystery of Israel's Salvation

For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Rom 11:27

is my covenant... The New Covenant. “When I shall take away their sins” (quoted from Isa. 27:9). A necessary prerequisite for Israel’s salvation.

Jer. 31:33 “But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

So many people I know do not want to believe that God will forgive the physical house of Israel. This is so strange to me, because we were not worthy of His forgiveness and He forgave us. Why would He not forgive His chosen family? My Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue confess Jesus when they see Him coming in the clouds.

Following this judgment God will then remove godlessness and sins from the nation as He establishes His New Covenant with regenerate Israel (cf. Jer. 31:33-34).

Ezekiel Chapter 39 Vs. 26

 The Lord Will Restore Israel

Ezekiel 39:26 "After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made [them] afraid."

This explains the Now of vs.25. After Israel has borne her shame and her people have reaped for all their sins, when they dwell safely in their own land, when when none will make them afraid, and when I have brought them again from all the people among whom they have been scattered (vs. 26-27), then shall they know that I am the Lord their God, which caused them to be led away captive among the heathen, and gathered them again to their own land, leaving none of them among the heathen. Neither will I hide My face from them anymore, for I have redeemed them and poured out My Spirit upon them (vs. 28-29).

Israel was brought back, when she repented of her idolatries, and returned to the One True God. They were punished for their unfaithfulness to God. They are not afraid, because they are back in good standing with God. God will take care of them, as He did in this great battle.

Eze. 39:25-29 look ahead to the end of the Tribulation when God will restore the nation from her final dispersion.

Romans Chapter 11 Vs. 26

The Mystery of Israel's Salvation

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: Rom 11:26

all Israel shall... This refers to the whole nation that will be alive in Palestine when Christ comes (Zec. 12:10-13:1; 14:1-15; Mat. 24:39; Isa. 66:7-8). It is at that time that all the rest of Israel will be gathered (Isa. 11:1-12; 66:19-21; Mat. 24:31). All of the elect Jewish people alive at the end of the tribulation, not the believing remnant of Jews within the church during this church age. Since the remnant has already embraced the truth of the gospel, it could not be in view here, since it no longer needs the salvation this verse promises.

There shall come... This verse and the next are Quoted from Isa. 27:9; 59:20-21.

The Lord Jesus Christ’s millennial rule will be associated with Mt. Zion.

(These next three verses show the Israelites awakening).

Zec. 12:10-11 – “I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. “In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

Isa. 53:5 – But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isa. 11:10-12 – The Root of Jesse

“And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.” “And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.”

After “the fullness of the Gentiles” (Rom. 11:25, KJV) the partial hardening of Israel will be removed and all Israel will be saved, that is, “delivered” (in the OT “saved” often means “delivered”) from the terrible Tribulation by the Messiah, the Deliverer. To confirm this, Paul quoted from Isa. 59:20-21 and Isa. 27:9. The statement, “All Israel will be saved” does not mean that every Jew living at Christ’s return will be regenerated. Many of them will not be saved, as seen by the fact that the judgment of Israel, to follow soon after the Lord’s return, will include the removal of Jewish rebels (Eze. 20:34-38).

Ezekiel Chapter 39 Vs. 25

The Lord Will Restore Israel

Ezekiel 39:25 "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;"

Now will I... (after Armageddon and at the 2nd advent of Christ) will I bring the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, that is, those of all the 13 tribes that have not yet been gathered from all the nations. (Eze. 39:25-29; 37:1-28; Isa. 11:10-12; Mat. 24:31).

When Jacob is mentioned, it is speaking of the 13 tribes of Israel. This is a time, when the tribes will be reunited, and Israel is forgiven of God, and accepted back as His wife.

The defeat of Gog will also hasten God’s plans to restore the other Israelites from other nations. Eze. 39:25-29 look ahead to the end of the Tribulation when God will restore the nation from her final dispersion. God will… bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel.
