Romans Chapter 1 Vs. 20

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Rom 1:20

For the invisible... Rom. 1:20 explains Rom. 1:19. All invisible things, even the eternal power and Godhead, are clearly seen by the visible things of creation. See Deut. 29:29.

eternal Greek: aidios, twice (Rom. 1:20; Jude 1:6).

Godhead Greek: theiotes, Deity. Only here.

are without excuse... No excuse for people to be ignorant of the invisible things. Same word in Rom. 2:1.

What may be known about God” (Rom. 1:19) is now called God’s invisible qualities and identified as His eternal power and divine nature. Since “God is spirit” (John 4:24), all His qualities are invisible to physical eyes and can be understood by the human mind only as they are reflected in what has been made, that is, in God’s creative work. The self-existent God, however, is the Creator of all things, and therefore since the Creation of the world His “invisible qualities” have been clearly seen. Paul may have intended a play on words between the noun translated “invisible qualities” (aorata) and the verb translated “clearly seen” (kathoratai) because they share a common Greek root. Both the verb “clearly seen” and the participle “being understood” are in the present tense, which emphasizes the continuous nature of the action. The word theiotēs, translated “divine nature,” occurs only here in the New Testament and embraces the properties which make God Himself. Creation, which people see, reveals God’s unseen character — the all-powerful Deity. An Old Testament parallel to these verses is Psm. 19:1-6.

Invisible things”: Or attributes, referring specifically to the two mentioned in this verse.

1. “The things that are made”: The creation delivers a clear, unmistakable message about God’s person.

2. “His eternal power”: The Creator, who made all that we see around us and constantly sustains it, must be a being of awesome power.

They are without excuse:” God holds all men responsible for their refusal to acknowledge what He has shown them of Himself in His creation. Even those who have never had an opportunity to hear the gospel, have received a clear witness about the existence and character of God and have suppressed it if a person will respond to the revelation he has, even if it is solely natural revelation, God will provide some means for that person to hear the gospel. (Acts 8:26-39; 10:1-48; 17:27)

Paul’s conclusion to this description of natural revelation is important — men are without excuse. The witness to God in nature is so clear and so constant that ignoring it is indefensible. Their condemnation is based not on their rejecting Christ of whom they have not heard, but on their sinning against the light they have.

Daniel Chapter 4 Vs. 20

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth; Dan. 4:20

The tree that... The 5th prophecy in Daniel (Dan. 4:20-23, fulfilled). Next, Dan. 4:25.

Interpretation of the Tree Vision:

1. Nebuchadnezzar, you are the tree (Dan. 4:20-22; cp. Dan. 2:38)

2. The watcher, a holy one sent down from heaven, is an angel announcing the decree of the Most High (Dan. 4:23-24)

3. The decree is: You will become mentally deranged and men will drive you from your kingdom. You will imagine yourself one of the beasts of the field, eating and sleeping with them for seven years, until you learn that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomsoever He will (Dan. 4:25)

4. The stump left in the ground with the roots held firm by a band of iron and brass means that your kingdom shall be sure unto you when your lesson is learned (Dan. 4:26)

My Sheep Hear My Voice- Rev. 22:13

My Sheep Hear My Voice- Rev. 22:13

Before Jesus was crucified He told the disciples to watch and pray, something so simple, but they let their physical bodies take over and they fell back asleep. In these last hours of time you need to hear His voice. When He tells you something, it is very important, but most ignore my voice or just discuss it and go on with what they were doing. You will see many things start to happen shortly and if you do not hear and obey His voice,... it will mean death for some of you....Jesus has only your best interest in mind. Christ knows you heart, and if you are truly His you will hear His voice. He awakes many of you at 3am on the dot, but most will roll over and go back to sleep. There are a few who will get up and pray. Your day is filled with so many things and Jesus is the last thing many of you give your time to. But Christ needs to talk to you,... to fellowship with you and only when you are still and quite (3am) can you hear Him,... the rest of your day is so busy you do not have time for Him,... but you need to make time, for time is short and the Lord has instructions for you.

Revelation 22

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Rev. 22:13

I am Alpha and Omega” (see Rev. 1:8).

The three designations of verse 13 are virtually equivalent in meaning.

(1) Alpha and Omega;

(2) The beginning and the end;

(3) The first and the last.

By applying them to Himself, Christ claims unlimited, eternal equality with God (Rev. 1:8, 17; 2:8; 21:6).

These three designations express Christ's infinity, eternity and boundless life transcending all limitation. These descriptions describe the completeness, timelessness and sovereign authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Eternal Christ (Rev. 22:13)

Once again Christ is described as the Alpha and the Omega (first and last letters of the Gr. alphabet), the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Christ is before all Creation and He will continue to exist after the present creation is destroyed. He is the Eternal One (cf. Rev. 1:4, 1:8, 1:17; 2:8; 21:6).

Romans Chapter 1 Vs. 19

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. Rom 1:19

For ignoring God’s revelation

These verses declare that knowledge concerning God is available to all. This knowledge is called natural revelation because it is seen in the created world, is accessible to the entire human race, and is not soteriological, dealing with salvation effected by Christ.

Paul called this knowledge plain (phaneron), which means visible or clear. This is true because God has made it plain (ephanerōsen, the verb related to the noun phaneron). Some scholars translate the phrase to them as “in them,” insisting that Rom. 1:19 is speaking of the knowledge of God within the being of man through conscience and religious consciousness. Preferable is the position that Rom. 1:19 states the fact of natural revelation and Rom. 1:20 explains the process. One support for this view is the word “for” which begins Rom. 1:20 and indicates a tie between the verses. Manifest means to make visible, real, or to make known. God has not hidden Himself. He has made Himself real to mankind throughout all ages in his creation. He has especially shown Himself to mankind in His Son (Jesus Christ).

God has sovereignty planted evidence of His existence in the very nature of man by reason and moral law.

Daniel Chapter 4 Vs. 19

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies. Dan. 4:19

astonied for one... Astonished, (meaning appalled for a time) not because of the difficulties of understanding it, but for one hour he waited to give the interpretation, because he knew it was not a good dream for Nebuchadnezzar. But he felt for the king, the nation, and for the welfare of his own people.

The king spake... Nebuchadnezzar encourages Daniel. He probably, already knows the dream is a bad one.

the dream be... The dream concerns your enemies and the interpretation benefits them.

Revelation 22

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Rev. 22:12

I come quickly;... (see Rev. 3:11). Again, imminence is the issue (cp Mark 13:33-37).

Again, Christ declares the imminence of His return. This is in red in the Bible, so this is Jesus speaking directly here. All Christians should be watching the eastern sky for “In a moment when you think not, the eastern sky will open, the trumpet will blow, and Jesus shall shout”. At that time, we will be called to heaven to be with Him forever.

according as his... Only those works which survive God’s testing fire have eternal value and are worthy of reward (1 Cor. 3:10-15; 4:1-5; 2 Cor. 5:10).

Our rewards will be for the things (treasures), we have stored in heaven. Rewards are always based on works done by believers based on their faithfulness in serving Christ in this life. Their works will be tested and only those with eternal value "will be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is" (1 Cor. 3:13).

The rewards believers will enjoy in heaven will be capacities for serving God. The greater their faithfulness is in this life, the greater will be their opportunity to serve in heaven, not to mention the crowns believers will receive.

Having knowledge that Jesus could return at any moment shouldn't lead Christians to a life of idle waiting for His coming. Instead it should produce diligent, obedient, worshipful service to God, and urgent proclamation of the gospel to unbelievers.

Try looking at it this way. By telling everyone you meet now about the good news of Jesus but they don't listen to you, then suddenly the Rapture happens, those people will then remember every word you said to them. That is why I personally believe that right after the Rapture, more people will begin immediately seek the truth about Jesus and that will begin the largest soul harvest the world has ever known.

The Coming Judgment And Reward (Rev. 22:12)

The words with which this verse begins: Behold, I am coming soon! are the same as those at the beginning of Rev. 22:7. In connection with His return, which will be “soon” (cf. Rev. 22:7, 22:20), a reward is promised to His saints for what they have done for Christ. The reference is to the judgment seat of Christ (2Cor. 5:10-11). The final judgments of both the wicked and the righteous will be judgments of works. This is the joyous expectation of those who are faithful and the fear of those who have not been faithful.

Romans Chapter 1 Vs. 18

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom 1:18

For the wrath... The wrath of God is also revealed in the gospel as part of God’s righteousness.

wrath of God... This phrase is found ten times in Scripture (Rom. 1:18; Psm. 78:31; John 3:36; Eph. 5:6; Col. 3:6; Rev. 14:10, 14:19; 15:1, 15:7;16:1).

against all ungodliness... This is what God’s wrath is against. In Rom. 1:18-32 Paul proves the utter ungodliness of the Gentile world and its deserving God’s wrath. In Romans 2:1-3:8 he proves that the Jews are also ungodly and deserving of God’s wrath. In Rom. 3:9-20 he sums up the case of both Jews and Gentiles, proving the whole world guilty.

Ungodliness, Greek: asebeia, impiety; no reverence for God or sacred things; irreligious (2Tim. 2:16; Tit. 2:12; Jude 1:18).

unrighteousness, Greek: adikia, all wrongdoing; immorality; wickedness of heart and life (Luke 18:6; Rom. 1:18, 1:29; 2:8; 6:13).

hold the truth... Hold down, suppress; imprison; bridle.

God’s Righteousness Revealed in Condemnation

The first step in the revelation of the righteousness that God provides for people by faith is to set forth their need for it because they are under God’s judgment. The human race stands condemned before God and is helpless and hopeless apart from God’s grace.

Condemnation against pagan humanity

This section looks at the human race prior to the call of Abram and the establishment of a special people of God. This situation persisted in the pagan world of the Gentiles as distinct from the Jews.

Reasons for Condemnation

God never condemns without just cause. Here three bases are stated for His judgment of the pagan world.

For suppressing God’s truth

This verse serves as a topic sentence for this entire section. In addition, it stands in contrastive parallel to Rom. 1:17. The continuing revelation (the verb is being revealed is in the pres. tense) of the wrath of God is an expression of His personal righteousness (which also “is being revealed,” Gr., Rom. 1:17) and its opposition to human sinfulness. Therefore people need the continuing revelation of “a righteousness from God” (Rom. 1:17) that He provides. God’s wrath is directed against all the godlessness (asebeian, “lack of proper reverence for God”) and wickedness (adikian, “unrighteousness”) of men, not against the men as such. (God’s wrath will also be revealed in the future; cf. Rom. 2:5.) God hates sin and judges it, but loves sinners and desires their salvation. This is not an impulsive outburst of anger aimed capriciously at people whom God does not like. It is the settled, determined response of a righteous God against sin.

Is revealed”: More accurately, “is constantly revealed”. The word essentially means “to uncover, make visible, or make known.” God reveals His wrath in two ways:

1. Indirectly, through the natural consequences of violating His universal moral law,

2. Directly through His personal intervention. The Old Testament record for the sentence passed on Adam and Eve to the worldwide flood, from the fire and brimstone that leveled Sodom to the Babylonian captivity, clearly displays this kind of intervention.

The most graphic revelation of God’s holy wrath and hatred against sin was when He poured out divine judgment on His Son on the cross.

God has various kinds of wrath:

1. Eternal wrath, which is hell

2. Eschatological wrath, which is the final Day of the Lord

3. Cataclysmic wrath like the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

4. Consequential wrath, which is the principle of sowing and reaping

5. The wrath of abandonment, which is removing restraint and letting people go to their sins.

Here it is that fifth form, God’s abandoning the wicked continually through history to pursue their sin and its consequences.

Ungodliness”: This indicates a lack of reverence for, devotion to , and worship of the true God, a defective relationship with Him.

Unrighteousness”: This refers to the result of ungodliness: a lack of conformity in thought, word and deed to the character and law of God.

Hold the truth in unrighteousness”: Although the evidence from conscience, creation and God’s Word is irrefutable, men choose to resist and oppose God’s truth by holding fast to their sin.

Failure to give God His due inevitably results in failure to treat people, created by God in His image, the right way. Conversely, people (in their unrighteousness toward others) continue to suppress (katechontōn, lit., “holding down”) the truth (cf. Rom. 1:25; 2:8) concerning both God and man. People had God’s truth but suppressed it, refusing to heed it. And these wicked ones did this in an attitude of wickedness (en adikia). This suppression of the truth is Paul’s first reason for God’s condemnation of the pagan world.
