Rules for Levitical Priests
And when they go forth into the utter court, even into the utter court to the people, they shall put off their garments wherein they ministered, and lay them in the holy chambers, and they shall put on other garments; and they shall not sanctify the people with their garments. Eze 44:19
when they go... The priests and Levites who ministered to the people were to put off their linen or ministerial garments when they went to the outer court. They were to change clothes in the holy rooms provided for this purpose before going out among the people.
These linen garments were to be worn only in the Most Holy Place.
they shall put... They were to be immediately taken off, after ministering in the Most Holy Place. This was the reason for having the chambers close to the Most Holy Place we have discussed in previous chapters.
they shall not... They were to wear other garments, when they went out to the people.
Before the priests go among the people in the outer court, they will change from the vestments they wear in ministering before the Lord. This will help people distinguish between the holy and the common.
Again, The fancy clothes were worn when the High Priest represented God to the people. The linen garment was worn, when the High Priest represented the people to God.
