Daniel Chapter 5 Vs. 16

 Daniel Interprets the Handwriting


And I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom. Dan. 5:16


now if thou... Again, this is back to Daniel. He will be greatly rewarded of the king, when he tells what this writing is. All of the things mentioned, like the scarlet robe and the gold chain, show his authority to rule.

And shalt be... The third ruler, This trio included Daniel, along with Belshazzar (553 – 539 B.C.), and Nabonidus, (ruled 555 – 539 B.C.). The prizes turned out to be non existent in light of the city’s conquest that very night (verses 29-30).
