The King of the North
Daniel 11:39 "Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge [and] increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain."
them to rule... Referring to the god of forces and the strange god whom he will honor (Dan. 11:38).
shall divide the... He will be liberal, sharing the spoils and riches taken from many sources, and in this he will be similar to Antiochus Epiphanes (Dan. 11:24).
There will be great alliances with this antichrist. In fact, the first 3 1/2 years, it will seem as if he is the answer to the world's problems. Most people believe the world's problems are financial. If he were to release great wealth into the land, he could momentarily cause prosperity. It would seem to be the answer to the problems.
This man will have to be someone who controls the greatest part of the money in the world. There will come a time, when it will not be necessary to have paper money. Everyone will have a number, and can transact with that number.
Rev. 13:16-17 "And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:" "And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."
The transfer of value could be handled electronically by the computer.
The god unknown to his fathers (ancestors), who will give him strength, may be Satan. Though this king will come to power offering peace through a covenant with Israel (cf. Dan. 9:27) he will not hesitate to use military power to expand his dominion. And he will be helped by a foreign god. Those who submit to his authority will be put in positions of power (he will greatly honor them), and his ability to dispense favors (distribute the land at a [reduced?] price) will gain him a great following.
