Daniel's Prayer for His People
Daniel 9:6 "Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land."
spake in thy... See John 5:43; Heb. 1:1-2.
God had sent prophets like Isaiah and Jeremiah to warn them, but they had not heeded the warning. They had actually chosen to believe the false prophets over the prophets of God. They could have repented before all of the problems arose, but they did not.
Four times Daniel acknowledged that his people had sinned (Dan. 9:5, 9:8, 9:11, 9:15). Their sin was a sin of rebellion (cf. Dan. 9:9) against God and in turning away (cf. Dan. 9:11) from the Word of God (His laws; cf. Dan. 9:10-11) which they knew. God in grace had sent prophets (cf. Dan. 9:10) to exhort the people to return to Him but they had refused to heed their messages (we have not listened). Kings and people alike stood guilty before God.
