Daniel Chapter 4 Vs. 25

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. Dan. 4:25

That they shall... The 6th prophecy in Daniel (Dan. 4:25-26, fulfilled). Next, Dan. 4:31.

they shall drive... Who actually did this is not stated. It was not his enemies, for they would have killed him. The vision concerned his enemies (Dan. 4:19) in the sense that his absence from the throne would be good news to them. He could not carry on any more invasions in such condition. His friends no doubt fulfilled this and protected him in his sojourn among the beasts. No new king was chosen in his stead. His kingdom was secure and waiting for him when he should become normal. His own son was regent during this insanity and he no doubt helped preserve the kingdom for him, which made possible the fulfilling of Dan. 4:26.

shall make thee... Grass and water is to be his menu.

and seven times... The word "times" is always used to mean a year. A very good example of that is time, times, and half a time; later on in the book of Daniel.

till thou know... Through this illness Nebuchadnezzar would come to acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone He wishes.

The most High... The purpose in this is that Nebuchadnezzar will recognize God for who He really is.

and giveth it... He must learn that a man is king, because God made him king, and for no other reason.
