The Handwriting on the Wall
Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied. Dan. 5:9
Then was king... Three-fold effect of the handwriting:
1. It produced great agitation in the king (Dan. 5:6, 5:9).
2. It changed the jovial mood of the king to one of fear and terror (Dan. 5:6, 5:9).
3. The lords were dumbfounded (Dan. 5:9).
and his lords... Then all the guests who like the king had seen the writing on the wall were thrown into utter confusion (his nobles were baffled).
