Romans Chapter 7 Vs. 22

The Law and Sin

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: Rom 7:22

law of God... This is the law of Moses of Rom. 7:1-16.

the inward man... This refers to the spirit of man which knows (1Cor. 2:11; 2Cor. 4:16; Eph. 3:16) and which is immortal (1Pet. 3:4). It also takes in the soul, that is, the seat of the feelings, emotions, and desires, for Paul not only knew and willed to do the will of God, but he delighted in it (cp. Psm. 1:2).

The believer’s justified, new inner self no longer sides with sin, but joyfully agrees with the law of God against sin.

Paul held fast to the fact that, as he said, In my inner being I delight in God’s Law (cf. Rom. 7:25). “In my inner being” is literally, “according to the inner man.” (The “inner man” is used in the Gr. NT also in 2Cor. 4:16 and Eph. 3:16.) Delight in God’s Law was the psalmist’s response, stated repeatedly in Psm. 119:1-176 (e.g., Psm. 119:16, 119:24, 119:47; cf. 1:2).
