for the Execution
Then
Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the
king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men
of Babylon: Dan. 2:14

Daniel answered... Here we
have Daniel’s wisdom again exercised. He sought for time only once.
How much time is not stated, but there was one night at least before
the execution (Dan. 2:19). The mission to slay was already being
carried out (Dan. 2:14). He did get a certain stay of execution from
the king himself (Dan. 2:16).

to Arioch... Arioch, an
ancient Babylonian name first used as the name of a king from Assyria
(Gen. 14:1, 14:9). It is found elsewhere only in Dan. 2:4-15,
2:24-25.
