Ezekiel Chapter 39 Vs. 18

This Great Sacrifice

Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. Eze. 39:18

Ye shall eat... The 8-fold menu of birds and beasts:

1. Flesh of the mighty (Eze. 39:18, 39:20)
2. Blood of the princes of the earth
3. Flesh and blood of rams
4. Of lambs
5. Of goats
6. Of bullocks
7. Of horses (Eze. 39:20)
8. All men of war

flesh of the... When they fall in battle, it will make no difference whether they were generals or a private. The vultures know no rank. The rams, lambs, goats, and bullocks are speaking symbolically of the different soldiers.

Since God describes the feast by the imagery of a sacrificial means, the warriors who fell are described figuratively in words such as rams and other animals used in sacrifice.

Bashan... Fruitful, Region East of Jordan.

Here, however, the men of Gog’s armies will be sacrifices; they will be eaten by animals. In addressing the birds and animals God said that at this great sacrifice they will eat flesh and drink blood… as if they were… fattened animals from Bashan. Bashan, east and northeast of the Sea of Kinnereth (later the Sea of Galilee) was known for its fertile land and fat cows (cf. Amos 4:1).
