Wherefore
at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. Dan.
3:8
accused
the Jews...
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego (Dan. 3:12). For some unknown
reason, Daniel and other Jews were left unnoticed or they were not
present at this dedication. Some court advisers (astrologers; Dan.
1:17) were quick to bring an accusation against the Jews. The word
translated denounced is strong, meaning “to tear in pieces.” The
accusation was severe, intended to destroy the accused. The accusers
were evidently motivated by jealousy for they referred to the fact
that Nebuchadnezzar had set some Jews… over the affairs of the
province of Babylon (Dan. 3:12; 2:49).
